This course will introduce the traditional system of medicine, Ayurveda, it’s principles and application. Topics that will be discussed over the duration of this course include the definition of general health according to Ayurveda and the Ayurvedic approach to the root causes and management of pain.
Day 1 will cover the definition, classification, causes, conditions and perpetuating factors of lower and upper back pain. We will also cover food, herbs, spices, the importance of diet, lifestyle and sleep in the management of pain. We will learn simple yoga exercises and massage techniques with specific essential oils to aid in easing pain.
Day 2 will cover causes and management of chronic body pain specifically including knee and shoulder pain. We will also explore: The Body Realm – Exercise, posture and reducing strain; musculoskeletal pain mechanisms and how repetitive strain, poor posture and injuries can lead to chronic pain. The Mind Realm – Perspectives on breathing exercises for mind relaxation and the management of pain.
